Dufferin Tile came into existence in the early 1960s. Back then, flooring for the most part was limited to vinyl, with limited usage of ceramic and natural stone.  Dufferin Tile began mainly doing installations, and it strived and persisted until it would become widely known as the place to go to. A place to choose from a large selection of good quality items at very fair prices. 

In the 1970s, Canadians became more aware of the quality that ceramic offered, though it was still relatively unknown. At the time, in the opinion of Guido Palombo, the few importers of ceramic tile maintained inflated and unreasonable pricing. It was for this reason, that Guido decided to import ceramic tiles himself. Given that Guido was born and raised in Italy, and that was where the majority of quality tile products were produced, it was a perfect opportunity to build relationships with the manufacturers to bring these products to Canada.

Dufferin Tile’s philosophy, since it began importing, has been to provide the best quality products at the lowest price. Building their 40,000 square foot warehouse in the 1980s, importing products from around the world became even easier. This philosophy of doing business was handed down to Guido’s son, Claudio.

Since the sad passing of Guido, both Claudio and his wife Anna have made a strong effort to continue and grow Dufferin Tile. While products and styles may change, our mission remains the same: to provide quality products at great prices, to provide the best quality family-style service that really resonates with people. You may have heard their voices on the radio, or seen them on TV over the years, following in Guido’s footsteps to bring that personal touch of the company to you, our valued customer.

Today, as Claudio's sons Justin and Dante are now the 3rd generation to become involved in the family business, their focus is to bring the company more into the digital world, while still honouring the foundational principles that have kept Dufferin Tile successful for 60 years. Now, with the introduction of the online storefront, you can shop for tiles within the comfort of your own home, or you can come visit our 10,000 square foot showroom.
