15% Government Tax Rebate
15% savings from the Government?!?! The politicians want everyone to renovate their homes and cottages to help the economy! It sounds strange, but it is true.
The following are a series of excerpts from the Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC) portion of what the Canadian government included in their 2009 budget:
A "15% non-refundable tax credit to individuals for eligible expenditures in excess of $1,000, but not more than $10,000 made in respect to eligible dwellings... Goods must be acquired between January 28, 2009 to January 31, 2010... An eligible dwelling consists of a person's principal residence, or a principle residence of one or more of the other family members... A renovation or alteration of an eligible dwelling qualifies for the HRTC provided that it is of an enduring nature and is integral to the dwelling, including expenditures for the cost of labour and professional services, building materials, equipment rentals and permits... Expenditures must be supported by receipts. Goods or services provided by a non-arms length person will qualify only if that person is registered for GST purposes."
Some of you might be asking what this means in English. Quite simply, it means that any money (up to $10,000) you spend on renovations in your home before January 31, 2010 can be claimed for a credit on your tax return - As long as you are purchasing your granite and tiles from a legitimate company such as Dufferin Tile. This would mean that when you buy your tiles from us this year, or that beautiful granite countertop you always wanted, just keep the receipt so that you can get your credit when you file your taxes next year!
Just remember, with the great prices we offer, not only can you buy all the tiles for your floors, but you can afford to add a granite or marble countertop without going over the ceiling of the tax credit! This is yet another way of showing that buying from Dufferin Tile gives you great value.
For anyone who wishes to learn more about this proposal, I would suggest searching 'Google' or any other internet search engine under the keywords "15%, tax credit, Canada, home, renovation, 2009"
